Question

Photoshop keeps enlarging my images upon export

When I export an image in Photoshop, then reopen it later, it is always much larger than the original canvas size.  I am aware that when exporting above 72 ppi that Photoshop  resizes the image based on the pixles instead of the original dimensions, but I find this incredibly frustrating.  I want the image to remain at the correct canvas size regardless of How do I export at 300 ppi while still mainting the original canvas size?  Is there a setting for that?

Hi!

What are you using the image for?

A png is a web format, and as noted above, you cannot have a 300 dpi image for the web because it's based on screen resolution. That's why the image opens as it does. It is not a bug, it is the process of the format you are choosing. If you are savng these image for print, there are much better formats than png.

Hi @Koz1120 how are you exporting? What is happening is your image is the same size but showing at 72 ppi with a larger image area. If you compare the pixel dimensions before and after in Image Size they are the same.

You dont export at 300 ppi - you can save as if you want to maintain the resolution.

I'm exporting as PNG, either as a quick export or as a normal export.  If I export a project that is set to 8" x 6" 300 ppi, then right click on the PNG and open in Photoshop, it opens the image to something like 32" wide.  That's very annoying when I need accurate measurements.  I'd like to be able to export at 300 ppi, then open that image in photoshop and have it be the exact dimension as it was when I was working on it (8" x 6" 300 ppi)

Hi @Koz1120 its not opening at a larger size. See below

Original was 8x6" at 300 ppi or 2400 x 1800 px.

Exported as PNG which converts to 72 ppi resolution but also swaps with the W&H - however the size is the same. 2400 x 1800 px.

You cant have a web image at 300 ppi.
