Photoshop keeps freezing

Everytine I do a design in Illustrator and transfer it to photoshop for the final layout it crashes, I've done the same process the last 10 years but the last few weeks it freezes as soon as I transfer the smart object and have to shut the program off and try again, I thought it was due to the image being to large, but even if I transfer a circle it still does it. Any suggestions?
