Question

Photoshop losing GPS data

Hey everyone, thank you in advance for any help.

I've been geotagging my photos more and noticed last night that when I "edit as smart object in Photoshop" from Lightroom, my geolocation data seems to disappear. I save my edits in PS with the save command (not "save as") as that bridges it seamlessly with LR so I can export and catalogue from there.

Is there a place in this workflow (LR --> edit as smart object in PS --> save) that would drop this EXIF data? Is there a way to prevent it rather than having to rebuild it?

Windows 10, everything fully updated. LR Classic and PS 2021.

Thank you, again.

I do not install LR.  When your image opens in Photoshop from LR  can you use menu File>File Info... (Alt+Ctrl_Shift+I) shortcut and see the GPS data?

Thank you for replying.

It does not pull the GPS data through, though it does show in LR.

I would think the problem lies in your LR version its not passing a file to Photoshop that contains the GPS mete data. Try opening your original image file in photoshop  use  ACR to develop it. ACR cam do what LR does  however  it has a different UI than LR Develop module.
