Question

Photoshop Mac won't save .bmp grayscale files and will vanish them from network

Hi there!

I think I've discovered a bug in the recent versions of Photoshop for Mac. I tested in several Macs with the same results, but I wonder if anyone is having this issue.

For everyone that would like to reproduce it, do the following steps:
1. Open any RGB coloured image; 2. Save it as a .bmp file

3. Convert it to grayscale

4. Save

Photoshop Mac simply won't save the image.

• The problem will only occur if the image is in grayscale color mode. For RGB, it works fine.

• The command "save as" also results in a correctly saved image.
• It also works fine in Photoshop for Windows, even in grayscale color mode.

The worst part is: if the image is stored on a network (smb protocol here), Photoshop will annihilate it forever while trying to save it. Vanish. Vaporize. Extinct. Disappear. No clue. Bye bye image file.

We've lost some images before realising this.

Thanks, Adobe.

Ok, I know .bmp is far from being a good format to work with in graphic arts. But our customer sent tons of images, all of them already linked into the InDesign layout file. So we don't have much options.

Hope Adobe can correct it soon, before people lose more files.

Best wishes,
