Anyway I can remove the red over the text, but not the text underneath?

Create a Marquee Selection around the text and then used Edit > Content Aware Fill.

Hi

You don't have a screen shot, but if there is one layer, then the answer is "No". There is nothing underneath. There are only pixels and the ones that were text before are now red.
