Photoshop mask and transparency settings

I've created a mask on a copy of my background layer which is hidden. I've masked out all the background. While working on this, I had my Preferences/Transparency Settings set to Grid size small Grid color blue. The background is knocked out. If I turn the Transparency to None, part of what is supposed to be hidden is visibile. I have renamed the file and rebooted my Windows 10 PC. Photoshop version is 20.0.6 Screen images included

Transparency Version

Transparency Off

 Thanks for any insight

I can't reproduce this. Have you tried resetting your preferences?

I had this happen. It only happened on RGB files.

When I turned on "use graphics processor" and "legacy composting" at the same time the problem went away. but note: I am on a mac,  (in settings>performance>).

The problem only existed when I turned off only one of those settings.

On my PC the "Use Graphics Processor" is selected but not the "Legacy Composting". I think somehow the Preference file was corrupted. Resting it has taken care of the problem. Thanks for your help!

Where are you turning the transparency to "None?"
