Question

Photoshop not enough space on scratch disks!

I think this problem is very common! You try to use something in photoshop and you get a message that you need more scratch disk space!

I allocted 2 tb to see if this would fix the problem but even now all it does is say ''proccesing'' when using a tool to then get stuck and crash. I tried removing the temp files and %temp% files as I was told to do so on the internet but this didn't help! every time I open photoshop and do something 2 files around 60gb each appear and fill up my entire ssd (which my photoshop is installed on) and then of course my photoshop crashes... I tried removing those 2 files but I could'nt as long as photoshop was running but whenever I did close photoshop the files would dissapear and I would get my disk space back. I tried removing them using the command pront when running photoshop but this didn't seem to work either. I tried using a file unlocker and removing them this way but after removiing them and restarting photoshop the files would appear again... I tried removing the files but they destination changes and when I try to look for the file names or something related my pc comes up with no results. it's like the files just magically dissapear and appear! I have no options left I can think of and even after reinstalling the problem was still not fixed. In total I did 4 restarts and updated my windows and still nothing seemed to work. I normally don't use forums but I thought I'd give this a shot! Please if you have any clues or ideas suggest them or help me out!

Thanks for reading!

If it’s an external HD how is it connected? If USB is it USB3?

Except having over read it:  Did anyone ask about the Ps version, the OS version, the computer configuration?

If your Ps is old, it will not work with disks above 1Tb as scratch disk space.

Does your computer exceed the minimum system requirements?  It sounds like your machine has insufficient resources.

Hmm, what did you change it to? What sort of disk and connected how? Maybe it’s an incredibly slow disk.

my C disk which is the one photoshop is installed on is a SSD but the one I changed it to is an older hdd! but 20 minutes to load even for an old hdd is very slow!

Wait what exactly do you mean with don't open a file but start it? It's just one problem if I change the disc the space problem is fixed but it takes forever to load but If I don't the disc is always full!

That‘s certainly a weird thing to be doing (slow or fast) but I‘ll leave it to someone else to suggest that. Just let it run, change your scratch disk and quit Photoshop. Best to fix problems one at a time.

This size of file is entirely normal. If your boot drive is disastrously full make sure it is not in the list of scratch disks.

I'll try to do so but the loading seems to take forever! This is the screen I get https://prnt.sc/igxtkj

Sounds like you fixed the Scratch disk issue and now have an entirely new one.

When Photoshop is running it will create files on your scratch disk. which are in use. This is normal. If Photoshop quits normally it deletes them. You seems to just be describing everything working normally on that part. 60 GB is not at all unusual.

Certainly, if it crashes they may be left behind. But if they are on your boot disk, is the boot disk still in the list of scratch disks?

Correct! The files get removed as soon as I close photoshop but this isn't really the problem! I want to use photoshop but when in photoshop this file is so big that it fills up my entire scratch disc and when I assign my D (main is C) disc it will crash my photoshop even when I have both checked!

Good day!

What is your primary Scratch Disk?

Is the installation disk assigned as a Scratch Disk?

Please read this:

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

Right so It seemed to have worked but then when I reopened photshop the problem had returned and resetting the prefrences didn't seem to work anymore! You have anything else I might be overlooking?
