Question

Photoshop not opening!! Process showing in Task Manger but not able to use it.

I have Photoshop CC 2017 installed. It was working perfectly for the last 1.5 years. 2 days ago, I tried printing a document directly from Photoshop when suddenly it stopped responding and closed. Since then I have been trying to open up Photoshop, but it just doesn't open up. However, when I check in the Task Manger, photoshop- it shows it as running.

I have tried restarting- not working.

I have tried to end task and reopen- still not working.

I have also tried running as administrator- still not working.

(If I reinstall- will I lose all my brushes and gradients; and presets I have made?)

Computer Specs-

GTX 960

8gigs RAM

i5 6th Gen

Windows 10 (creators updated)

PS: Illustrator, After Effects and other Adobe softwares are still working and are usable.

Please help, I need to use it urgently; have clients waiting and also need to use it for a competition.

Hi

You can backup your settings, take look here

Migrate presets, actions, and settings

Have you tried resetting Photoshop preferences, you could also try installing Photoshop CC 2018

also take a look here

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

If all this doesn't help try logging into Windows with a different user profile

Hi! Thanks for this

However, I cannot backup or reset preferences- as I cant open Photoshop in the first place.

I am trying out Create Cloud Cleaner Tool- will let you know if it works.

Migrate presets, actions, and settings

As I said if all else fails try logging on with another user account, sometimes Windows user profiles can become corrupt

You say this has continued after restarting the computer?  I'd have hoped that would clear it.  Anyway, find the instance in the Task Manager > Processes, and End Process it.  Or end multiple instances if they are present.  IME you can usually get an errant Windows app to start that way.

I can't help but suspect that the Windows update has broken your printer driver.  Try Google with the relevant search parameters for your printer and Windows version.  Doing a general search without a specific printer, still brings up a ton of hits, so I suspect that's where your long term solution lies.

Good luck, and please let us know if and how you fix it.

Hi! As mentioned in my question, I have already ended all the processes relating to Photoshop. Also, the issue does persist after restarting.

I have also updated all the drivers relating to the printers and graphics card. I even tried disabling all the printers while running Photoshop. I have not been able to find any solution, have been stuck on this for 2 days now.

If you have any other fix in mind, please suggest- would def try it out
