Photoshop problem when I edit text or add text

Hello !

I encountred a little (big for me) problem lately after I did the latest photoshop update (Aug 17 23.5)

Here's the thing, when I open a PSD file, any PSD file (or create a new one), the moment edit a text layer or add one with the Type tool, photoshop does a sort of refresh (quick white screen) and a whole lot of the UI changes;

Usually transform boxes are blue with blue handles. Now they're gray dots

Even when I'm working at 25% or 33% zoom there is an anti-aliasing going. Not anymore (althought it's enabled) everything is pixelated once I go below 100%.

Panning used to be smooth, now it's jaggy like a 3 fps paning.

Preference window (Edit > Preference) has now a thick gray border, almost windows 95 or 98 like.

This is about what I noticed so far after the "refresh" happens.

I tried enabling and disabling the GPU accelration thing. Tried to disable and enable the checkboxes in Performance > Advanced Settings. Tried restarting my computer. Nothing worked. Looked up this problem online but I didn't know what to look for, I typed "Gray dotted transform box" the only thing that came up was a thread from 2020 with no working solutions in it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you.

Correct answer mohamed.

Update :

I reset the preference settings thourhg Edit > Preference > General > "Reset Preference On Quit"

Launched photoshop and everything is working fine again. No more aliasing, no more jaggy panning and finally not more grayed dots instead of blue transformation boxes.

I still got the thick gray borders in "Preferences" though.

@Ged_Traynor would you be able to do a quick video of what you are doing so I can match it step by step? Want to make sure I am doing it correctly to verify this.

@CShubert for me the transform bounding box turns gray after selecting the type tool, so if I draw a shape and hit Ctrl + T all is OK, but if I select the type tool and click on the canvas the canvas size increases for a second and the panels change and then if I hit Ctrl + T again the transform bounding box is gray

Edit, tried a preference reset and the issue remains

Hi @mohamed. thanks for your post.  Testing here on Win11 with 23.5 and the transform tool bounding boxes and line show blue as expected.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,

Hi

I can confirm that issue with the type tool, canvas size increases for a second and the panels change, I'm not sure if Adobe changed the transforms controls to gray on purpose or if it's a bug, can't understand why they would have changed the colour if that is the case.
