Question

Photoshop randomly freezing but does not appear to be "not responding"

Photoshop has started to freeze while creating a path (this was on a 149KB photo). The toolbar will highlight tools as if they're selected, but the cursor will only show the Path Selection tool. I force quit and restarted Photoshop, but this problem still occured. Photoshop shows no indication that it is not responding or that any background tasks are being performed.

You might also try resetting your preferences. Go to Photoshop> Preferences> General or Edit> Preferences> General. Then choose Reset Preferences On Quit. Then restart Photoshop.

Hi Hannah,

That is a strange behavior by Photoshop, could you please let us know the version of Photoshop and the operating system you're working on?

Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

I'm on macOS Catalina Version 10.15.4 and Photoshop version 21.1.2.

I deselected the "Use Graphics Processor" and will let you know if it happens again.

Thanks!
