Photoshop - Replace color Greyed out

Hey everyone,

I have struggled with use of "Replace Color" feature since finding it. Even if my image mode is set to 8/16/32bits this feature does not work and is always greyed out. I cannot work my way around it. This problem occures even if the image I am trying to apply it to is on a new background or in a project with more graphical aspects.

Please let me know in case you know how I can fix this. I'm new to PS and I always encounter greyed out features not knowing how to enable them...

Cheers, Daniel

@intuitive_build5D95 Can you show full workspaces for both? The only way I can prevent Replace Color from working is to select a locked layer - either a smart object, or generative fill layer, etc.

Hello Daniel. Like you, I am new to Ps and my limited knowledge does not
allow me to help you resolve your problem. I regret and wish you good luck
in finding a solution. Kind regards .

@intuitive_build5D95 in one of your screenshots you appear to be on a Smart Object layer which prevents direct editing.

Yes, however in the other one I'm not. As I mentioned I tried to get around it in any way I know or made sense to me.
