Photoshop's Generate Normal Map function has broken

Hi, yesterday after working for months (probably years) photoshop (v22.1)stopped generating normal maps for me. I'd see the circular dots appear indicating it's busy but nothing happens. I've not updated to the newest version 22.11 and the normal map preview pain opens, but either crashes photoshop when I try to change a setting, or it just crashes before I interact at all. I've tried this with multiple files. It's an important part of my workflow and is causing me real issues. Can anyone help please?

Yeah. As someone who relied on this specific feature for years, seeing it now permanently broken is a huge disappointment. It was reliable, easy to use, and extremely productive.

 

It's easy for one to criticize Photoshop's 3D functionality when they never actually utilized aspects of it themselves. But this decision really hit some users hard.

You could try going to Preferences > Technology Previews and checking Deactivate Native Canvas. Then click OK and close and restart Photoshop.

 

Be aware though that Adobe are removing 3D functionality from Photoshop. See the link below:
