Photoshop: Save As defaults to 100% quality JPEGs

Since updating to PS 25.1.0 (on Sonoma 14.1) I've noticed that whenever I Save As using JPEG, it defaults the quality to 100%. I keep changing it to 75%, the next Save As it's back at 100% Maximum.

It would keep whatever your last settings were in past versions. Only noticed this recently, presumably since the update.

None of the files have been re-saved. These are JPEGs generated from PSDs for the web using the Save As command. My default JPEG compression is typically 75% quality; I never use 100%.

Save As (Save As a Copy) vs. Export As (Quick Export) vs. Export/Save for Web all use different JPEG algorithms that are not "known" to the other methods, they can't read the compression value used by the alternative method of creating the JPEG file.

So if you Save As at Quality level 7, then Save As again – it reads the quality level of 7 from metadata... But if you Save As at Quality level 7, then use Export As or Save for Web (Legacy) all bets are off.

If it has been previously saved as jpeg, it will default to the same compression level as the last save.

(of course, a jpeg should never be resaved if it can be avoided)
