Question

Photoshop "saved as" and exported JPG colour changes

Here is the problem  and an image of the problem (above)

This is a screen print of my problem - Image on the left is in Photoshop, image on the right is the exported or "saved as" image viewed in Windows Photo viewer (the same colour change is present in all other apps I open the exprted image with, including browsers). I have "saved as" and exported to all available formats and it seems that only in TIFF format the colour is saved correctly. But I want a file in JPG for web use, so TIFF wont work.

What I tried so far to fix it

I have read about sRGB and have updated the Edit > Convert to Profile > sRGBIEC61966xxxx setting. I still have the colour change problem.

Any advice? It is very frustrating 🙂

Thanks,

Color matching is only as good as the platform with which it is viewed. Adobe Photoshop is color managed, but many online and other applications are not. Unfortunately, I believe this is what you are experiencing. I am not familiar with Windows Photo Viewer, but it doesn't sound as though it utilizes ICC profiles, and this not color managed.

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post a screenshot, also one showing the Export-settings and the exported jpg itself.

To reiterate Dag’s observation: Photoshop is professional image editing software, if other programs lack Color Management there is precious little Photoshop can do about that …

Please try »Embed Color Profile«, it may not help with this application but some browsers should honor it.

Windows "Photos" is not color managed and will never display correctly, ever. It ignores all icc profiles, it doesn't even know what an icc profile is. It can not be used as a reference for anything, under any circumstances. Disregard it, use a color managed viewer instead.

What I can't understand is why so many are willing to trust a third-rate consumer app for viewing photos over the professional industry standard. But there you go.

If you have a difference between Photoshop and the Export window, it's because color management is by default disabled in Export. To enable it, you need to check "embed color profile". This turns on full color management.

That said - Photoshop can only display correctly if the monitor profile is accurate. A calibrator will do that for you. Bad monitor profiles from the monitor/laptop manufacturers is a common problem, and these profiles get distributed through Windows Update, to unsuspecting users.
