Question

Photoshop saving in PSD file took minutes to save

I’m encountering an issue with my updated Photoshop. Saving PSD files takes an unusually long time, even for simple files. Upon checking my Creative Cloud applications, I noticed that the PSD Beta wasn’t visible (I have both versions installed). When inspecting my software applications, I was surprised to see the PSD logo displaying as BETA on my iMac. I’m concerned if there’s a conflict between running both applications. Is the BETA version overwriting the original PSD? How can I resolve the prolonged saving time? Thank you in advance for your help!

To speed up the saving of files, go to the Photoshop settings and check the "disable compression of PSD and PSB filles" box in the file handling section.

Compression is enabled by default and it can significantly affect the time it takes to save files.

It is disabled the whole time @jazz-y . Thank you so much for your answer.

Just to give us something to go on - what is the pixel size of your file, how many layers and what type (pixel, adjustment), any smart objects?

Hey @hanipanDA. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

What version of Photoshop & the operating system are you working on? It is unclear if you're saving files & syncing the files between two computers using Creative Cloud.

For the Beta icon showing up for PSD in the iMac, you can set the default application for PSD files to Photoshop 2023.

CMD + click or right-click on one of the PSD files > Get Info & set the Open with.

Please share more details about your workflow. Thanks!
