Photoshop Scratch Disk: new external 256GB SSD not visible on Mac

Question

I bought a 256GB SSD to use as a scratch disk in Photoshop (with my iMac), but it's not showing up in the list of disks even though it shows up in Finder.  What's wrong, and how do I fix?

Hi there,

We are sorry about the trouble while trying to use the external drive as a scratch disk. Would you mind sharing the version of Photoshop you are using along with your computers operating system? Which format is the drive in?

For an external drive to be used as a scartch disk with Photoshop on a Mac, it should be in Mac OS extended (Journaled). If the drive is not in the correct format, please format the drive in the above mentioned format and check if it helps.
