Question

photoshop stops responding with quick brushstrokes

Hi! I've got an issue that's persisted between two models of HP Spectre x360. Everything works like a charm, pen pressure never has a problem, but if I try to make too many strokes with the brush pen too quickly, the whole program stops registering pen input(we don't lock up, it doesn't stop responding, it just decides the pen isn't real) and alt-tabbing to a different window fixes the issue for all of moments before repeating the process.

I can scribble as fast as you please, but as soon as i pick up the pen, it stops registering the input immediately.

I've checked and didn't apparently need to update drivers, but this is a new HP spectre and has persisted between two separate models of laptop. I like to keep my touch screen disabled with only pen input, and only recently has this been a problem. i've also tested it with windows ink disabled(or what of it i COULD disable), and the results are the same.

Thank you guys for your time!

How did you get pen pressure to work? Please tell me, I am desperate.

Are you using any kind of 3rd party tablet, like a Wacom tablet?

what i'm using is the touch screen on an HP Spectre x360. Between this new model i have now and my old one(maybe three years old?) i've only had this issue for maybe six months, a year at most. The pen I'm using is the HP Tilt pen, which they included with the purchase of the laptop.

gotcha. Does the pen have any sort of driver?  Has it been updated?

    Hi kelseyb,

We're really sorry for all the trouble. Could you please let us know the exact version of Photoshop you are using now?

Also, please turn off the "Rulers" from the View menu in Photoshop and check if that helps.

If the turning off Rulers doesn't help then, turn off the GPU from the Photoshop preferences > performance and restart Photoshop and let us know the results.

    Regards,

    Mohit

I actually never use the rulers, but turning the GPU off actually helped immensely! the version of photoshop I'm running is 19.1.6 if it'll help you guys out.

    Great, thanks for the update.

The reason we asked for the installed version to see if you are using the latest version of Photoshop or not.

    Thanks,

    Mohit
