Question

Photoshop taking forever to do anything

Hi, so, I'm working on a project for uni. It's a book cover, A3 in size using multiple pictures from other people to make it. However, whenever I import a photo, it takes 20 minutes for it to actually appear, then another 5 to transform it and cut it into a shape. As I add more images, it gets longer and longer. To the point where it takes a whole hour to import one image. The images are quite large they are 600DPI, but I'm trying to export it now and quite frankly, I pressed the export button at 3PM. It is now 4PM and it's still on the loading screen as the export button isn't usable. I don't get why I'm paying for this this is stupid.

It sounds like there is something specific to this file that is resulting in this behavior. I'm assuming that if you create a new blank file and use Export As, it works lightning fast.

Some things in the file that might lead to these types of performance issues:

  • There is a large number of embedded files which add more processing than the canvas size of the document would otherwise suggest.
  • There is cumulative metadata which is clogging the system (this can happen by reusing the same files over and over, such as with templates)

There could be others, but these are the two most common.

Would you be able to share the file so we could take a look?

To help solve the issue in Photoshop, select Help > System Info.

  1. In the System Info dialog, click Copy.
  2. Attach or copy the info here to this thread.
