Photoshop v25.x freezes when running an action as a batch process

I have been using a newly updated computer for a couple of months now. A clean install of Windows 11 (was Win10), 64 GB RAM, and plenty of space on a fast hard drive. This update coincided with Adobe's release of Photoshop 25.0.

As a photographer, part of my work process has been to run a an action on a batch of files, opening a bunch of psd files (usually 20-500), that were created by another batch/action, and saves two versions of each photo (color and b/w). I created this action around 8-10 years ago, and it has never been a problem. It opens the psd files, one by one, saves a b/w version, hides a few layers, then saves a color version, and then ends with closing the psd file without saving it.

I was always just able to run the batch and go work on something else. But now, Photoshop tends to hang or freeze on random files. Sometimes it's 10 files into the run, or 2 files, or maybe well over a 100 files. I then have to move the successfully saved psd files to a different folder, and also the file that froze Photoshop. I then run the batch again, and wait until it freezes the next time, and then I do it over and over.

I've tried re-creating the action but the same things happens. It's a fairly simple action (see screenshot), so I can't really understand why this is suddenly happening. Is it the OS? Is it PS? Something else? I was hoping things would turn out for the better with version 25.1, but unfortunately that's not the case. It's worse, if anything.

Anyone?

Cheers,

   Gunnar
