Question

Photoshop Video Timeline Keeps Moving my Layers

I'm trying to make 2-D animations in Photoshop using the Video Timeline tool. So far, so good-- I have a good understanding of onion skins, how the timeline works, video layers, et cetera.

Currently, I'm animating a blob of water moving back and forth in a wave-like pattern. I got the rough lines and clean lines done without any fuss. What I'm trying to do is color the blob on separate layers: one layer for the flat color, another for the highlights on the water.

Whenever I press the "play" button to test the animation, the flat color layer will move outside of the lines. I'm not sure why this is happening or how to fix it: the color only moves on one or two frames. I've tried locking the video layer in every possible way, but that doesn't stop it from moving. I can't keep re-drawing the flat colors only for them to move every time I playback the animation (which is only 8 frames, at 12fps). Help!!

Here's what it looks like.

The "flats" layer is where the lineart is where the issue is. As you can see on the current frame, the color isn't filled inside the lines (even though I colored it previously). This is an error that happens on a random frame every time I pause the playback.

I'm using Photoshop CS6, version 13.0.6 x64.

Were you able to find a solution to this problem?

Hi Arielle,

That does not sound like a typical Photoshop experience, could you please share a screenshot of the layers panel?

Also, a video would be really helpful for us to troubleshoot further.
What version of Photoshop and the operating system you're working with?

Regards,
Sahil
