Question

Photoshop won't let me close or quit any unsaved files/windows. Just freezes.

Just got a new MacBook M1 pro (dec 2021) and have run across quite a few bugs with PS that don't quiitttee match what I'm seeing online for other users. I've managed to solve some of the issues by going back to PS 2021 (from 2022) but a new issue has arisen today which is that I can't close or quit Photoshop with an unsaved file!

I had two windows open--one saved and one not. I was able to close the saved one. But I cannot close the unsaved window. Onee I try to close the window, photoshop completely freezes. All the menu options go grey. Trying quit Photoshop via the icon in the dock results in nothing. The only way to unfreeze is by pressing Escape, at which point a dialog box appears for a split second then disappears before I can even read it. Trying to close the window again results in the same annoying loop. I had to eventually save the file for Photoshop to let me close and exit, only to delete the unwanted file afterwards.

Hi!

What version of the MacOS are you running? Even though the computer is new, it might not be the latest version. Others have had similar issues and once they upgraded to the latest version, their problems went away.

Let us know if that fixes the problem, or if you are still having the same issue.

If you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
