Photoshop won't save and I can't find recent file. Thumbnail says 'This file is not available'

Hi, please could you help. I have had trouble saving my psd files. When I try to save I get a message that the file was being used by another process, so as a workaround I saved as another version. I closed Photoshop and updated - via Adobe Cloud, thinking that this would solve the issue.

I reopened Photoshop and the thumbnail under 'Recent' files shows an older version (yesterday's version). My most recent version has disappeared. I have Autosave set up. Can I recover my file. Where do I look for it and how do I fix Photoshop so that it saves a file as normal?
