Question

Picture Turns White Briefly When I Edit

All of a sudden, any photo I am editing dissappears (turns into a blank white box) whenever I press down on any editing tool. For example, I added a layer mask and I want to combine two images, but the moment I click down to use the brush tool, I can't see the image whatsoever and it's just white. Once I unclick, the image returns. If I click to drag the brightness level higher, the image dissappears so I have to guess how far to turn up the brightness, then let go of the mouse in order to see what my change looks like.

It's very frustrating and making it nearly impossible to use layer masks (I do photography for work), which is essential for combing indoor/outdoor images for real estate shoots. I restarted my computer and updated my Mac software to no avail. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi there,

Sorry about the trouble experienced in Photoshop.
What version of macOS you're on? Also, what is your Photoshop version? Did you try doing any troubleshooting steps from your end?
Try disabling the GPU, Go to Photoshop's Preferences > Performance and uncheck Use Graphics Processor, and restart Photoshop. Check if the issue persists.
If there is no difference, you may try resetting Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG
Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,
Ranjisha

Hi, to provide Ranjisha with exact information, please post the contents of Photoshop's Help>System Info... menu, so that we get to know your OS, its version, the exact version of Photoshop you are running, the date of the GPU driver, if plugins are loaded, and some of the settings you have selected in Photoshop.
