How do I change from Pixels to numerical sizing in the Character selection box when choosing sizing for fonts?

As Brad pointed out, using some unit measure other than pixels can be misleading. Unfortunately, even though Photoshop is a pixel based program, it really uses points for type. Using pixels for type can create some bugs in sizing, if I recall.

"numerical"?

If you mean you want your type in Points, go to:

Preferences > Units & Rulers > Units: Type : Points

If not, explain further.

You should know that using Points in a pixel-based image can be misleading as it depends on the Resolution you have set for the image. e.g entering 60 pt type on a 300ppi image will appear twice as large than when entered on a 150 ppi image.

Conversely, using type units in Pixels: 60 px type will be the same size no matter what the image resolution.
