Photoshop 22.4.1

Since the last Photoshop update i have been unable to use place embedded it places the image in but not in the frame just drops it on top of all the frames any help would be much appreciated thanks

Is Preferences > General > Always Cerate Smart Object when Placing checked? 

If you want to clip the image to one of the gray Layers move it atop that in the Layers Panel and use Layer > Create Clipping Mask (cmd-alt-G).
