It sounds like your Recent files list has been reset. That though is just a list held inside Photoshop. Just because a file is not shown in "Recent files" does not mean that it has been deleted from disk. Search your hard disk for the files and they should still be there. When you open them they will start to rebuild in the list.

Thanks so much Dave!

Okay, so I just searched for a files I was working on, this morning - it is in my file folder - but its a version form 9 days ago., and none of the saved changes are there.

Any thought on these questions:

1. Is there a way to restore the recent files list?

2. Why - when my Photoshop re-opned were none of my recent files there OR listed?

3. Lat time my Photoshop crashed, maybe in March, the recent files were all there. Some of the edits or chages maybe were lost...but I have never seen a wiped out "recent files" list.

Thank you!!

Hi

To answer your questions:

1. The recent files list is just a reference list kept by Photoshop. I don't know any way to restore it but it will build up again as you open each file.

2. It sounds like the app has glitched and lost track of its file list. However - as said previously - all that is lost at that point is Photoshop's internal list. The actual files referred to in that list should not have gone.

3. A crash sometimes just reopens Photoshop without any issues, other times it can damage the preferences and need a full preference reset.

What is puzzling is why you are only finding files edited up to 9 days ago. If you have saved the files since then then any updates you saved should still be on your disk. A Photoshop crash may lose the edits it is working on but not earlier versions that it does not have open.  Good practice is to keep incremental saves of your important work using "Save As" and updating the version name i.e. filename001.psd , filename002.psd ....etc  That way you always have several stages to go back to whether it is due to a crash or just a mistake. You can always delete the ealier versions once editing is complete.

I'm' so sorry to read this. But I'd really like to clarify - if you do a search on your computer for IMG_1992.HEIC, does nothing come up in your operating system? Where have you been saving your files when you get them into your computer? Do you have backups? Did you use Photos, or just copy to a folder?

I've never heard of Photoshop deleting any files from the computer system- and yeah... that's Twilight Zoney, but I want to make sure we really are just talking about the whole system, rather than just that "recent files" list...

I am sorry to hear this. Please share your OS information. When you say the information is lost, are you saying that your files have been deleted?

Hi! Thank you for the reply!

OS Mojave 10.14.5

So weird, when Photoshop reopend it only shows files from 9 days agao.

No files from the last 9 days can be found... they appear to have been deleated. Im so confused. Ive been using photoshop for decades and have nver seen this before. See attached. This is the first in the list of RECENT FILES.

Have you looked on your hard drive to see if those files are present? Photoshop crashing would not delete files.
