Pre-sales questions about Photoshop

What is Photoshop?

Many of my friends use Photoshop for post-processing of their photos.

What specific functions does Photoshop provide for post-processing of photos?

I am told that Photoshop requires a large time commitment to learn to use Photoshop.

I see that there are many add-on programs for Photoshop related to Photoshop.  If they are Adobe add-ons, then why are they not part of Photoshop?  Is this just a way for Adobe to collect more money for more software products?

Why cant I find out how much Photoshop costs?

I see all of these monthly fees quoted.  Im not interested in paying on a monthly basis since I doubt I will be using the software every month.  I also dont want my credit card on file so that a hacker can steal my credit card number from Adobe's computer system.

I want to know what the price is for a one-time license key, that comes with a perpetual license, so that I can reuse the key in case my computer has to be replaced.

I am not interested in subscribing to your cloud service.

I want to be able to use your software on my Windows based computer without requiring my computer to be connected to the Internet.

Why does your website not provide basic pre-sales information about Photoshop and the cost to purchase it?

Why does your telephone call router system not provide access to pre-sales staff that can answer all of these questions about Photoshop and the cost to purchase it?

Thank you.

" Im not interested in paying on a monthly basis since I doubt I will be using the software every month. "

That's your choice, perhaps you will find other software.  This is the professional's choice. To help you realise what a bargain you can get, Photoshop is now about $10 per month, while when it was a one time purchase it was $700. This means it would take SIX YEARS to pay the cost of the old software, and you would need another $1000 for upgrades... "I also dont want my credit card on file" Wise. You can buy gift cards (hard to find) that cover a year's subscription.

What is Photoshop?

An image editor that is predominently based around pixel imges

There is very little that you can't do in terms of manipulating the image creatively. providing a list would be meaningless. Take a look at the many online videos and tutorials to get a feel for what it can do.

I am told that Photoshop requires a large time commitment to learn to use Photoshop.

To become expert does take time, reflecting that this is a powerful and professional image editor. However, you don't need to learn the entire application to get started.

Some filters are included , but third party developers also make plug ins for Photoshop. My advice for anyone starting out though would be - learn to use the included functionality before worrying about plug ins.

For all of the above - Photoshop is subscription only. There is the less powerful Photoshop Elements which you can buy on a Perpetual license. https://www.adobe.com/uk/products/photoshop-elements.html

The subscription requires you to connect to the internet once a month to confirm your subscription is still valid. Outside of that you can be offline.

Photoshop (like all the Adobe Creative Cloud applications) is downloaded onto your computer and used on it in the normal, way (not in the Cloud).

Photoshop with updates as they become available, and including Lightroom, is offered at $10 a month: it's your choice to subscribe to this leading professional software application or not. Optional add ons are offered by third party vendors to help simplify and some Photoshop processes.

If you dont want to place orders by credit card for anything on the world wide web, again it's a matter for you, but most people seem to find the facilty invaluable.

By the way, you are not addressing Adobe on this forum, comments are (mostly) anwered by other users.

Photoshop is a bitmap graphics editing program, commonly used for retouching and manipulating photos, and is one of the most popular programs in existence.

Lots of add-ons are available from third party vendors.

Photoshop is only sold as a subscription and the software must be verified periodically with an Internet connection. If you don't want to purchase it that way, you can buy Photoshop Elements (a cutdown consumer version) or look at other software publishers.

I have personally been using Photoshop since version 2.5 in 1994 and don't know all the features. YMMV.
