Question

printing 4 color CMYK in photoshop

I am having issues printing each individual color in Photoshop (CMYK) in color halftone.  In the channels panel, each color shows up as the correct color until I select only one color, then it shows up in B/W.  What am I missing?...I have done this before and can't remember the process.

Can you tell us exactly what and how you're trying to print?

Each color channel is just a grayscale data of numbers, which you can view in color, but as outlined eariler, that in NO way means what you see is what you'll print.

Someone needs individual C,M,Y,K output? And you actually have a CMYK file, converted how, and for what output, from the source data?

Are you referring to onscreen display only?

Do you wish to print a halftone pattern? If so, as composite or separated into four prints?

If separated, in black and white, or as each separation coloured as cyan etc?

I am wanting to print each individual channel in its correct color...cyan, yellow, magenta, or black...the image on my screen shows it correctly, but when I go to print...it goes back to b/w

Work on a copy of your original file. Starting from a CMYK mode file, go to the channels panel and use the options menu on the upper right to "Split Channels". You will then have four separate greyscale mode files. In each file, I would then go to Mode > Duotone, select the monotone option and click on the colour swatch and make each file the correct colour. Then I would convert to your RGB working space for printing on say an inkjet. There are also other ways to colorize.

There is Preferences > Interface > Show Channels in Color.

But this doesn't mean the file will print that way! If you want to print out each CMYK channel, you need to prepare 4 separate files, each with the other three unwanted channels blanked out (filled with white).

What do you mean blanked out (filled with white?)  I can blank them out by not choosing their channel.
