Problem exporting to animated gif

I have an 8-sec timeline I would like to make an animated GIF but get a preview error when changing output from PNG to GIF. The preview error is a solid pink screen. I have 11GB of HD space, but this final gif should be less than 4mb. This has happened before but I attributed it to memory resources and just restarted computer. That solution is not working now.

After scaling this image down from 4000px wide to 800px it worked fine. Just cant export to a larger size.

 

I have gone large in the past and worked fine.

This issue is happening for me and it doesn't resolve when I reduce the size of the gif. Wondering if anyone has found a fix.
