Problem with pentool

I have several layers, all locked but one. I need to draw a path with the pentool in this layer. When I have finished the path, I lock my layer and try to click on visibility but the path does not go away. It just stays there. So I locked the layer I was drawing in and I was still able to draw with the pentool. How is this possible? All the layers are locked and I am still able to draw. I need the path to be in its layer. Can somebody help me?

You already have answer, I will try to add some more informations to make things easier to understand:

  • Paths drawn in Photoshop will be stored in the Path panel not Layers.
  • If you see path that is because it is selected in the Paths panel, open it then click off path to deselect it and path will go away from screen.
  • By default you will draw temporary or Work Path. If you want to save that path from accidental overwrite convert Work Path to normal path in the Paths panel.

Paths are separate from layers. It's not tied to a specific layer. But you can use the path to make a vector mask/shape, which will be tied to a layer.
