Problem with Quick Selection Tool - Photoshop 21.2

As a new user of Photoshop (v21.2.0) I am having a problem with the Quick Selection Tool. Admittedly, this is likely due to my inexperience. When I click & drag across an area I want to select, the "marching ants" start out along the perimeter of my selection, but then snap to the edges of the photo.

Hi there,

That shouldn't be happening. Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

    Sahil,

    Yes, that seems to eliminate the problem I mentioned above. However, although I selected an area with clearly defined edges, when I click & drag, the "marching ants" do not snap to the edges of the selected area as I assume they generally should. In addition, when I release from the trackpad, the "marching ants" are no longer visible. I might add that in lieu of a traditional click & drag with a mouse, I use a 3-finger swipe with a trackpad.

    Actually, since my gut feeling is that my problem(s) is the result of inexperienced user error, let me briefly explain what I am doing when using the Quick Selection Tool.

     

    After selecting the Quick Selection Tool, I check the Enhance Edge box on the Option Bar. After choosing a brush & flow rate, I drag across the area I want to select. In the past, this worked just fine. I would then either add or subtract from the desired selection area. The marching ants were always visible so that I could more precisly define my selection area.

     

    Now whenever I am done adding to my selection, the marching ants disappear when I release from the trackpad. In addition, if I attempt to add more to my selectioon, my previous selection is gone.

     

    My apologies if I am sounding confusing. I quit PS & restarted my Mac to no avail. Thank you for your patience.
