Problems with import from Photoshop

I am very new to this and I have no clue what I am doing so I really need your help . I have also asked our colleagues from After effects for their assistance but I am also asking your assistance.

I created a circle in Photoshop with  3 layers an outer, middle and inner circle layer and save it as a PSD file , but when I imported the PSD file into After effects it came in as one (1 ) single file and I am not able to isolate each individual circle to make changes such as rotation, shape, opacity etc ( to each individual circle ).

How do I import into AE so that I have control of each circle?

Thanks.

When you import the file into AE, choose the option: import as composition ( retain layer size)
