Question

PS 20.0.05 Very Slow, and cloning glitchy or not working

Hi, I am continually finding every release of photoshop over the last couple of years really really slow and glitchy.

I'm a professional photogrpaher and retoucher, and have been using photoshop since PS3 , and I just need things to work.

I regularly work of fairly big canvases 10,000px x 10,000  8bit- but i've been doing this for years since CS1, without too much problem (and on older mac cheesegrater mac pros with only 8gb ram!)

Currently using a trashcan Macpro 6 core 3.5ghz with 32 Gb Ram  , 1TB fast SSD with lots of space running OSX 10.14.06  and it is so infuriatingly slow. Photoshop is simply freezing , at random times and some simple tasks take 3-5 mins to carry out .

Cloning can be really glitchy, sproradically. It will not clone , then do random cloning which does not follow what or where I have been cloning with my cursor.

Just now i waited 5 mins to copy 10 layers, some with masks to then merged down.

I pressed ESC afer 5 mins , then tried it again - and it did it in 5 secs!

This is smaller file for me at only 5GB and it is using 16GB scratch disk out of 20GB available.

I also find the masking interface very glitchy and slow, since it was first introduced , I see no benefit.

I have it set up fine I believe, has anyone experienced this on last 2 or 3 years versions and what can we do about it.

I feel PS is just becoming bloated and bloated .... and professionally unusable - can any Adobe Dev people pease get in touch ?

I can make screengrab videos of what I'm experiencing

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

We apologize for the performance issues you are facing while using Photoshop.

Would you mind going to the System Preferences for the Mac and navigating to Security and Privacy > the Privacy tab > select Accessibility from the list on the left and make sure Photoshop is added to the list. If not, you can click on the plus sign and add Photoshop to the list.

Once done, please restart the computer and then check the performance of Photoshop.

Also, please update Photoshop to the latest version (20.0.6) through the Creative Cloud.

You can also check the steps mentioned in the article below and check if optimizing the performance of Photoshop helps.

Regards,

Nikunj

Hi , thanks for the follow up.

I've done the recconmended settings and it's still the same.

It just hangs for seconds when cloning and painting and erasing (masks)

Then the cloning jumps all over the place , not where my cursor has been at all!

I then tried Photoshop 2018 , and this is much better. But it still glitches regularly and cloning and brusehs are non responsive for seconds, then fine a minute later.

Ive tried on a Mac pro 2013 and a 2018  6 core i7 32gb macbook pro and its similar.

- has anyone else got this problem? surely cannot jsut be me!

Could you go to the Help menu of Photoshop > System info and share that information with us. (Preferably for both machines))
