PS 2017: RESTORE TAB FOR RENAMING LAYERS?

In Pre-2017 photoshop, when you were inside the title of a layer group, the tab key would take you to the next visible layer for quick renaming. This function has been replaced by the annoying response of OPENING the layer group (and actually.. not that layer group, the next one). is there any way to get this back to the previous feature? I don't understand the thought process that tabbing to rename countless layers is less useful than adding an uncessary step of opening a layer group - since you have to click on the first layer group anyway and in which case you would just open the layer with your mouse. Opening the layer group with the tab key takes more steps than just using the mouse (doubleclick-tab-tab vs. one click), and now i'm missing a valuable feature. is 'tab to open' hidden in a menu somewhere so that i can turn it off?

What operating system are you using?

Probably a bug in photoshop cc 2017.

Can't find where it says that was changed in the photoshop cc 2017 release notes.

New features summary: Photoshop CC 2017 release
