PS adjustment layers not working

Working on scans for the first time in a while, PSCC recently updated. When I open a .psd file and try to modify an existing Curves Adjustment layer, the the curve responds to dragging, the histogram shows normal response, but the onscreen image doesn't change at all. I tried making a new adjustment layer, same thing. I tried bringing in a digital capture and adding a curves layer, same thing.

»with latest MacOS version«

Please don’t make such statements, instead give the exact version number for both OS and Photoshop.

Does turning on (or off, depending on the current settings) Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Legacy Compositing and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

MacOS Catalina V 10.15.5. PSCC says '21.2.0 release'

Does turning on (or off, depending on the current settings) Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Legacy Compositing and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue? —was off, turning on and restart changed nothing.

"use graphics processor" was off, unchecked. Turning it on and restarting appears to have fixed the problem. Thanks for locating the issue.

A second issue I hadn't addressed yet was that the picture in the main PS window would change to a blank gray rectangle for no obvious reason. Changing magnification would turn it back on. I'll be curious to see whether that goes away too. BTW, don't know why 'use graphics processor' was off, I didn't do that manually.

PS: Out of curiosity I went back and turned Legacy Compositing back off again and restarted. Things still work fine, so Graphics Processor turned off seems to be the exact problem. Thanks again.
