    Hello,

    try to

    • File -> import-> video to layers.

    • In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.

    • Select your GIF file and which frames to import.

    • They will now be available in your animation palette.

    Hello, you need to help us help you:

    which version of Ps2017? Did you try Ps 2018 (19.1.4)?

    Did you manage to open the same gif before?

    What is your platform? Pc/Mac? version?

    Are you sure the extension of the files are correct?

    Please try to the change the extension of one of this files from .gif to .jpg or .png and retry to open it in photoshop

    Hello,

    I'm trawling the web to see how I can open a gif file in photoshop cc 2020 on a mac and came across this post, so I hope you don't mind me butting in with a  request for assistance.  I am trying to open an image that I saved as a gif when I saved  for web.  I now need to open it.

    The import "video to layers' option doesn't work because I don't have a dialogue box to type "*.* to show all file types.  I do have the option to open all documents which ungreys the files I want to open but when I click on a file I get the message  "Could not complete the Video Frames to layers command because the file could not be opened".  I've tried to change the prefix from .gif to .psd but that doesn't work because Photoshops doesn't recognise it as a valid file...  Can you help?

    I managed it!  Quick Export as a .png file and save and then opened it and it's editable!  Many this will help someone else!

    Thanks!

    I'm currently having the same problem 😞 I've tried exporting the gif in settings to a png but it still won't let me open it in photoshop. Any advice?
