PS CS5. Ctrl+z doesn't work. Language solution didn't help.

Question

I'm trying to undo and it just won't work. I don't know what's causing it. The popular language solution don't even work. It's all set to English US. I've restarted both PC and PS many times. I've tried re-mapping the backwards and undo hotkeys to no avail. When I press the key combinations to change it, it just won't do it. Is it a problem with my laptop keyboard? PS was working fine from the past week. Help???

CS5 was released in 2010. As I recall, Ctrl+Alt+Z was the shortcut for Step Backward. Does that work for you?

Can you tell us this:

Go to the Edit menu and tell us which shortcuts are listed for Undo and Step Backward?
Go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts. Are you using the Default settings, an override, or a saved set of shortcuts?
What does it say for Undo and Step Backward?
