PS CS6 Spherize filter problem

I am trying to spherize a layer in ps Horizontally only and when I do this vertical break lines appear in the layer. When using the spherize tool vertically or both vertically and horizontally simultaneously there is no problem. Please help.

    Please post screenshots including the pertinent Panels and dialogs.

    Did you apply the Filter as a Smart Filter?

    Hopefully you can see what is happening here. the white rectangle is the layer I am attempting to spherize horizontally only and when I do this the vertical lines appear.
