Question

PS images are desaturated after saving once I've changed computers.

Hi there,

I'm a newbie. In more ways than one. I am new here, this is my first post, and I am REALLY NOT very tech savvy, so I will apologize now if my question seems strange. Hopefully, it will earn you bonus points if you can help someone like me. I have downloaded PS CC to another computer system, and now my images are totally desaturated when I start with a Raw and edit it straight from PS and save to a file. If I download images in LR, then edit in PS, resave to LR and export them they are perfectly fine. Once I download an image in PS without LR I cannot seem to retain the colors. I went back to school as a mature student to help me start my photography business, but software issues like this were not addressed.

I am really hoping it isn't an overly difficult thing to fix.....please help me if you can.

Most likely you are saving as Adobe RGB or ProPhoto, and then view the file in a photo viewer that is not color managed.

In a non-color managed viewer, both the document profile and the monitor profile are ignored. The original RGB numbers just bypass all profiles, directly through to your monitor.

The default viewer in Windows 10, "Photos", is not color managed. The default viewer in Windows 7, "Windows Photo Viewer", did have full color management. Sometimes the world goes backwards.

For use in non-color managed environments, always convert to sRGB. The Export function in Lightroom does this at default settings. Embed the profile for Photoshop and other color managed software.

are you viewing your images on a calibrated monitor, or is this difference on the screens you're viewing on?

Hi

When you save to a file, what file type are you using and have you ensure that the ICC profile is ticked in the save options when you save.

When you say exported images are fine - where are you viewing them? Is it those same images that look different in Photoshop?

Hi there. Thanks for responding. I just shoot Raw without jpeg. I prefer to work with Raw files. When they load I only see the one image in Raw format.

Do you shoot in RAW+JPG format?

Sounds like you're comparing Raw images (unsaturated, unprocessed, straight from the camera sensor) to JPG images (processed in camera prior to downloading to your computer).
