PS v 21.2: short library of custom shapes

I just started using PS v 21.2. Selecting the Custom Shape tool, my Custom Shapes "library" only seems to contain leafy trees, wild animals, boats, and flowers. When I click on the Gear icon, I only get a very short menu, and I am not presented with a long list of shapes to choose from, as are offered in v 20.0.9. In fact, there are no other shape categories listed. However, there is a funky choice in the v 21.2 Gear menu that says "Append Default Shapes." This is a choice which is not present in 20.0.9. When I choose it, I get a dialogue box that asks: "Append the Shape defaults to the list of Shape presets?"  I have no idea what that means, and am reluctant to choose it. Does that fix the problem and restore the much larger Custom Shape library that was present in v 20.0.9?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

In Photoshop v21, all Presets panels were redesigned with updated presets. Append Default Shapes is probably not what you want because it will simply add another set of the current v21 defaults, not the old ones you wanted. What you want are the old shapes under the panel menu command Legacy Shapes and More. But that will install them in a kind of inconvenient, buried way, so if you want them at the top like in Photoshop v20, read the following post for that and other details:
