PS2021 saves file file as PSD even when I give it jpg extension

When I use the Image menu to increase pixel count and then save file with a jpg extension. The RESULT IS NOT A REAL JPG FILE. Several web sites [500px for example] refused to accept it. FILE VIEWER PLUS says it is a PSD file in spite of jpg extension.
