Question

PSD File failed to save as .psd and is instead just listed as "File". Can't open. Any solution?

Hi,

I really needed this as it took an hour of editing and for some reason the .psd did not save properly which is beyond frustrating. Is there anyway to convert the file or at least be able to open it in another program so I can copy the old work onto a new file? It's a blank file that says "Type of File: File"

Did you close the file?

If not, can you go backwards in the history panel?

Does your empty file have layers?

When you look at the file listing on your computer--how big is it?

Could you have saved it somewhere else on your hard drive?

If you have "the" file open and it is a blank page--there is nothing to copy and paste into another document to try and resurrect it. I know you probably don't want to hear this (none of us do) but you will probably have to rebuild it. Believe me, we have all done this--and it is no fun. I lost a file that I had been working on for two hours--but it only took me 40 minutes to rebuild because I knew what I wanted the second time around. You've heard it before--Save Often!

Let us know the answers to the questions above, and it might help to post an image of your screen--it might help us to help you more effectively.

I can't go backwards or find in the history since it was saved last night.

Yes, my file does have layers.

The file is 29.2 MB and there is not option to change the extension. Just says "Type of file: File"

I only saved it in this folder and searched the hard drive already.

That's good news in one sense! Does the file open and the page is bland? Do the layers show anything when you open the file?

Are you on a mac or pc? On a mac, you can click on the extension in the folder and change it outside of Photoshop--have you tried that?
