psd files open as jpeg in photoshop cc

Question

I just got a macbook and installed photoshop cc. I transferred over all my psd files from my old windows laptop and when I look at the files in my photos they show up as a psd file, but when I open them in photoshop they open as a jpeg and the filename changes to fullsizeoutput_2b?? I'm hoping there's a simple way to fix this!

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

What does that mean? What is »photos«?
