PSD made in Mac, can't be opened on PC

Hi guys!

So I work for a creative design agency and I'm trying to get into web development.

The creative team made this photoshop file on a mac, and I'm trying to open it on my computer so I can practice programming it.

Unfortunately, I'm having troubles opening it. Upon opening it, I get a prompt saying that the document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep the layers editable. I'm then presented with 3 options, to either cancel the open, keep the layers, or open a flattened image.

I can open it fine as a flattened image, but what I really need is the to keep the layers. If I choose to keep the layers however, I get "could not complete your request because of a program error".

What can I do to fix this?

Also I noticed that I can open this just fine on this online photoshop editor, which is quite strange.

Looking forward to your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks!

    Correct answer Test Screen Name

Yes, certainly. Photoshop Elements is a much more limited program and there are features that full Photoshop might use which it just can't understand. In such cases it may fall back to the flattened image.

ahhh, I am sad right now.

Thank you. My company offered to give me access to creative suite. I guess that's my solution then!

Thanks again for the insight. That's a real bummer

If you bought it, it is many years from being the latest. Photoshop has not been sold for years, it is subscription only. Maybe you have only Photoshop Elements.

Ahhh I bought it digitally via Amazon.

I just checked my order and I have Premiere and Photoshop elements.

But should that affect my ability to open psd files? I can open and create psd files, but just not this one...

Adobe have no online Photoshop editor, there may be someone stealing the name. Perhaps you are using an old version of Photoshop. Did you just take out a subscription? What version is shown in ABOUT Under help menu?

    Hey there!

Sorry I didn't mean online photoshop literally, but a copycat version but for the browser.

This is the service I meant.

I can open the file just fine there. I get all the layers and everything.. I tried exporting it from the website into another psd, hoping that this new "version" of the file will work -- but no luck.

And ahh I just saw your response while at the office -- so I can't check the version now. However, the last time I approved an update for my premiere elements copy, it was for one of the camera features. I have a feeling it is most likely the latest one. I bought the copy in February this year.

In any case, I'll update you the version later today.

But I mean, it's strange that I can open it via that photoshop clone site above.... but not through the official photoshop software..
