Ran low on storage and PS 2021 psd files are now all opening as smart objects, cannot see them on screen except as a layer thumbnail.

 

Lokking fora way to convert the smart objects to a bitmap, wnadered into saving as a AI and pdf file.

 

Am an 87 year old Apollo engineer try to write a book need some help.

I think an 87 year old Apollo engineer can pen a better description of what they are experiencing.  It is hard to believe the all PSD files open as a single smart object layer on your machine.   

 

There are also objects that Photoshop does directly support.  For example Camera Raw Objects.  Photoshop has no support for Camera sensor Raw Data.   Adobe Plug-in ACR supports raw data and can create a Photoshop Pixel Layer or Smart Object Layer in Photoshop. Photoshop does not directly  support Vector File formats.  AI Support Vector Files and Vector Files Smart Objects.  Photoshop cans Import some File types it does not have support for as Raster Pixel Layer.  Photoshop can impors as a raster picel layer vector files like .ai amdf .svg.  AI supports Vector files I doe not install AI. There will be no vector information in  Photoshop when Photoshop imports a file type it does not have support for.  The are special cases when it come to PDF files. All PDF file are not created equal.  There are Acrobat PDF Files and there are Photoshop PDF files.  Photoshop will Open Photoshop PDF files as a layered document.  Photoshop can import Page,  files, and object from Acrobat PDF files.

 

Can you clearify the following some for me as it stands: "PS 2021 psd files are now all opening as smart objects, cannot see them on screen except as a layer thumbnail."

 

I do not comprehend exactly what its trying to convey.  There is no image in Photoshop image display but there a thumbnail in the layer palette for the single smart object layer that show an image. That all your PS 2021 created psd files open as single smart object layer without an image being displayed.  Is the opacity and fill 100% for the smart object layer?

My main problem was solved when I found the Window/Arrange/Gather all windows drop down and used gatehr all windows commnad and

SHAZAMM, my image showed up in my workspace and I can proceed with editing it.

 

Now all I need is help in making my workspace open such that I don't have to repeat this opening sequence and return to my prvious normal situation before the LOw-memoery crash.

Aparently all the old psd file are opening as smart objects, so the low memory state has ebedded a bug in in ps as I now have 220gb of memeory available, so I need to know how to convert to bit map all myb old psd files as well as any new jpg files which are all now openimng as smart objects.

Old psd file that contain layer in the past could not open as a smart object layer that smart object layer wold not have been created in the past.  A  layer documnent could be opened and have all its layers converted to a single smate object layer. Can you open the smart object layer object?

Now just learning how to use this forum.

I just tried to open the thimbnail shown on the layer drop down, and cannot find any way uinless it is to 

open it as a smart object.  If I do tha , is there a way to get it back as a bit map, which all of the old jpg and pasd files open fine in AI, biut hen I cannot work them to correct the image brightness contrast.

 

Will try to be more accurate now I've found you to more accurately describe my challenges.
