RAW files open up as jagged diagonal lines

I purchased a years Adobe Photography CC plan to be paid monthly.  Initially Photoshop CC worked fine so when the two week period came up (where I had the option to cancel) I decided to keep using it instead of my trusty CS5.  Now unfortunately, right in the middle of a photography job, I cannot open my RAW files in Photoshop – they do open but appear as jagged diagonal multi-coloured lines.  This happens, not just with the new images I’ve taken but with the ones that were working when I first purchased CC.  However, they all open up fine in CS5.  So I have had to revert to using  CS5 to get my work done.  Now when I open up Adobe CC it says that my trial has expired, even though I have an email as a record that it wasn’t a trial as I paid for it.  I did enjoy using the new version, but if it isn’t reliable I would like to cancel my contract and ensure that I don’t get any monthly bills.  I’m not even sure I will get billed as it is telling me it was a trial.  Could you please look into this and figure out what is going on?  That would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Wendy Scott

This is a video driver issue. Go into Camera Raw Preferences and uncheck "use graphics processor". You can do that from Bridge or Photoshop if you can't open Camera Raw itself.

Thanks very much....that worked.  A bit of a mystery as to how it happened in the first place.

    Hi

The video card manufacturers regularly update their drivers and Microsoft also drop driver updates with Windows. Unfortunately, most updates are aimed at the games market and some introduce bugs that impact Photoshop and Camera Raw.

You can check whether an updated driver is available from your GPU manufacturers site. However leaving GPU unchecked for camera raw will make very little difference in performance (unlike Photoshop where turning off the GPU loses functionality)
