Ready to give up on Ps

• I have been using both Windows and Mac computers for about 25 years. 
  
  

I have always been interested in Photoshop, but I've been putting it off for many, many year (decades even) , due to the complexity. So, I have a new MacBook Pro and I'm trying to learn Photoshop and it is absolutely one of the most difficult things I've ever done. I've tried YouTube videos. I've called Adobe support. I've tried tutorials in the app. It is just not intuitive.

Understanding layers and masks is very challenging. I just cannot get past this aspect of the program. I just want to smash my new laptop at times. I came very close a few times. 

Should I throw in the towel? I've been using the program for only a couple weeks and I am not making any progress at all.
