Red filter in Black & white

Hi all, apologies if I am in the wrong place, first try at a question. I have converted some photos to black and white and am pleased with the outcome. Years ago when I used to shoot with good old black & white film  ( remember film? that ages me) use of a red or orange filter could produce dramatic effects turning a blue sky dark or even black, whilst the rest of the photo would be relatively unaltered ( unless it contained a lot of blue anyway).  How would I create this effect in PS ? Simple application of a red filter from the filters box just gives a red tint, it is not like shooting through a red filter with monochrome film.

I am probably just missing the obvious, but any help would be much appreciated.
