I can Select subject but the eraser tool doesn't erase.   I'm wondering if my mac version is one that screws things in PS.  If anyone knows an app that quicly removes backgrounds that I can adjust to make sure it selected all I want, please reply!  Thanks in advance.

If anyone knows an app that quicly removes backgrounds

The quick way is:

  • Convert the Background layer to a regular layer
  • Click Remove Background in the Properties panel

This will make a Layer mask. You can paint on the mask to make adjustments.

I am trying to follow the webinar tutorial on removing a background. He says to scroll to quick actions under properties. However the 'remove background' option is not there. This is July 20, after the 21.0 update. Is it gone now?

Can you show a screenshot of your Properties panel with the layer selected?

Thanks, I realize I missed a step, selecting mask... and have been able to use the feature after all.

Have you tried selecting the layer and choosing "Remove Background" from the Properties panel > Quick Actions?

Have a look at the newish Select > Subject feature, it may be suitable for your image.

You can then press Q to to fine tune in the Quick Mask Mode (or alternatively, use Select > Select and Mask) and then select the Layer Mask icon at the bottom to remove the background.

What happens when you click it (A screenshot with the layers panel and options bar showing would help).
