Question

Remove dead pixels in ACR

Hello,

I have just bought a used Fujifilm X-T2 and found quite a number of dead pixels (white and / or colored spots). THis has been replaced with another used camera which is exactly the same. Otherwise the camera is fine. Looking on the web I see a number of post which indicate ACR (and Lightroom) automatically removes dead pixels. I don't use Lightroom but shooting RAW always use ACR but find that it does not remove dead pixels. Are the posts incorrect or is there a hidden procedure available within ACR which I am missing?

Thanks.

If this is native sensor resolution, 6000 x 4000 pixels, and not resampled, this isn't dead pixels. It's something else, but I have no idea what. I've never seen anything like it. Note the overall background noise in addition to the hot spots:

The image is an original RAW file saved as a reduced JPEG Any point in me sending a cropped extract from the original RAW?

As I said, I have no idea what this is. But since this is the second body you tried that does this, I'd begin to suspect a problem in demosaicing these files - in other words an ACR bug.

Is this the x-trans sensor that doesn't have the standard Bayer filter array? I'm not familiar with the Fujifilm cameras.

    Hi

If I remember correctly, ACR does remove hot pixels but the algorithm looks for contrast of single pixels against surroundings and does not remove doubles (which in reality could be fine detail). Are your hot pixels singles or couples?

    Hi Dave,

Mostly single…see attached. Dead pixels visible from about 30% onwards.

I often work in low light so really would like to deal with this issue.

    Hi Brian

There was no image attached. You need to be on line (as opposed to email) to attach an image - just use this widget at the top of the posting box.

If the hot pixels have not automatically been taken out you may need to use the spot removal tool
